Rock & Country Musicians Win $1,000 & Perform at Noah’s Ark This Summer

Noah’s Ark Waterpark announced today the winners of the statewide “Rock the Ark” Battle of the Bands.  The seven winning bands will receive $1,000, a season pass for each band member for 2011, and will perform this summer at Noah’s Ark.

In Madison, the winner from WZEE-FM 104 and WIBA-FM 101.5 is an all-original rock group called A.S.H., from Beloit, Wis.  The country winner from WMAD-FM 96.3 is Buckneck-ed, a group of seasoned musicians from the Stoughton, Cottage Grove and Portage areas.

In Green Bay, there are two winners from WIXX-FM 101.1.  Green Bay’s Daphne performs originals and pop rock music.  5 Degrees is an alternative rock group from Appleton.  The band members are high school seniors and have been performing together since seventh grade.

In Milwaukee, from WMIL-FM 106.1 and WOKY-AM 920, the winner is 4 Lane Hwy, a popular country cover band from East Troy, Wis.  The WRNW 97.3 winner is Katie LaFond, a 17-year-old singer/songwriter from Racine.  LaFond performed in the WAMI Youth Showcase at Summerfest in 2010 and is nominated for a 2011 WAMI in the “Rising Star” category.

In Wausau, the winner on WIFC-FM, 95.5, is Shockwave, a three-piece band from Sherry, Wis.  All three young men are 14-years-olds who attend Auburndale Middle School. Shockwave plays a variety of music, including rock, pop, classic rock, country and even polka.

The “Rock the Ark” competition started Monday, Feb. 28 on radio stations in Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, and Wausau.  Musicians were asked to register performance videos of their music act on the websites of the radio stations.  Station-approved music videos were uploaded for anyone to view and vote on from Tuesday, March 22 through Sunday, March 27.  Individuals could only vote once per day.  The rock and country music acts with the most votes in each market were declared winners.
