Noah’s Ark Waterpark is lowering its admission price by 80 percent for one day to encourage visitors to come out to America’s largest waterpark and help feed the hungry. On Tuesday, Aug. 31, admission to Noah’s Ark is just $7 when visitors come to the Kahuna ticket booth in the park between 8 and 9 a.m. Children, ages two and under, are free.

Noah’s Ark will donate $5 of every $7 admission to the food pantries in five, local counties, including Adams, Columbia, Juneau, Marquette and Sauk counties. The remaining $2 will go to cover Noah’s Ark’s cost of opening the park early.

Wisconsin Labor Force Estimates indicate that while the unemployment rate in each of the five designated counties decreased slightly in June 2010, average rates remain high at 8.6 percent. According to Lisa Williams with the Central Wisconsin Community Action Council (CWCAC), the need for donations is increasing. The number of households served by the pantries is up 30 percent over 2009.

“We are seeing a dramatic increase in the number of families qualifying for our assistance,” says Williams. “Our goal is to provide well-balanced meals for our families and the monetary donations help us make better purchase decisions based on what is needed most and at a fraction of the cost people pay at food stores.”

Every $5 donation can purchase nearly 25 pounds food at a cost of 18 cents per pound at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Madison.

“We hope folks in Wisconsin and our neighboring states will take advantage of the low admission price to help those who have fallen on tough times,” says Tim Gantz, co-owner of Noah’s Ark Waterpark. “If our guests also want to make a non-perishable food donation, we appreciate it, however it is strictly voluntary.”

The $7 entry is only good between 8 and 9 a.m. at the Kahuna ticket booth on Tuesday, Aug. 31. This is the fourth year that Noah’s Ark has conducted an end-of-season food drive.

As in the past, Noah’s has designated the Central Wisconsin Community Action Council (CWCAC) to receive the donations. The organization is contracted with the USDA that supplies and distributes Federal commodities to food pantries in the five designated counties.
